Leadership participants come together
In August, the men and women leadership participants held a two and a half day workshop at the Rivergums Oasis camp in Newman.
Understanding the WA Roadmap for Remote Communities was a big part of the workshop. The group was learning that they had to be informed, aware and prepared in order to engage effectively with Government to be able to have a say in how their communities develop. The group also had an in-depth session on company law examining how companies should be run and the laws around this. Martu own companies and knowing how to run them is important in ensuring they are run in the right way.
The Martu women had a session on priority setting where they identified the key areas that they wanted to focus on in the program and placed them in order of priority. This was a challenging but insightful activity. Most of the issues and areas they identified were critical and urgent however, they also understood that they needed a plan and that they could not focus on everything at the same time.
