NAFI rangelands extension

NAFI, the Northern Australian and Rangelands Fire Information website, has been extended to cover the entirety of the Western Australian Rangelands. The extension of this service in WA was an initiative of the Rangelands Fire Leadership Group. KJ Fire Management officer Gareth Catt is a part of that group and spoke recently at the launch of the service in Perth.

The extension of NAFI allows smaller groups and start up ranger team’s access to a fire history that can inform discussions around improving fire regimes across the Rangelands. It also gives other land managers such as pastoralists an overview of what has happened, and what could happen in the future with fire. This sort of fire scar information is one of the building blocks for a successful fire program.
