About KJ

Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) is a Martu organisation that was established in 2005 to work with Martu to build strong, sustainable communities. KJ is focused on three complementary objectives to:

  • support Martu to look after culture and country

  • build a viable economy in Martu communities; and

  • build pathways for young Martu to a healthy future.

Our impact

KJ’s programs assist Martu to engage with their country, share and learn cultural knowledge, and learn about the mainstream world. These on-country programs have generated transformative change across Martu communities, with a wide range of social, economic and cultural outcomes.

How we work

KJ has worked for over a decade with Martu, and recognise that in this cross-cultural interface, Martu have their specific skills and knowledge, while non-Martu have different skills and knowledge. Working closely together blends and uses both sets of competencies to produce the best results.

Governance Awards

Board and governance

KJ’s Board has 12 Martu directors and three advisory directors. KJ has put in place a number of tools and measures to ensure good governance, and simultaneously, to give Martu the capacity to take more effective control of the management of the organisation.

Mukki Taylor
Martu are strong. Martu have the knowledge. With KJ, Martu are looking after their country the right way. We should keep going. When the old people are finished, the young people must keep going, looking after country. All the future generations should be working to look after country, burning the right way, looking after rock wallabies and digging out waterholes.
