Playgroups on Country: Cultivating Belonging for Martu Children and Families

KJ Martu Women and Families Program has been featured in Every Child magazine, highlighting the importance of our On-Country playgroups for children and families living in remote Martu communities.

The article, “Playgroups on Country: Cultivating a strong sense of belonging,” shares how our programs are grounded in Martu culture, priorities and aspirations. Through time spent on Country, children and families connect with language, stories, bush knowledge, family relationships and the places that are central to identity and belonging.

KJ’s On-Country playgroups support children’s early learning while strengthening connections between generations. Caregivers, Elders and program coordinators work together to create experiences that nurture confidence, culture and community.

As one caregiver shared in the article, children learn stories, sit around the campfire, eat bush foods and collect bush medicine — helping them grow strong in their culture and future.
