Wama Wangka – Roebourne Regional Prison

Martu have visited Roebourne Regional Prison every month over the last six months to lead an ongoing conversation about alcohol.

The conversation has developed where people are now more comfortable to share individual stories. Martu support Martu through this program, which is entirely run in Martu language. Individual Martu take the lead and facilitate the conversations during the visits.

During the November visit, several Martu that are currently in Roebourne Regional Prison were interviewed about their journey and the struggles they have had with alcohol. The interviews will be made into a second Wama Wangka film. Film is another way Martu can speak to other Martu and support the struggle many have with alcohol.

Martu will continue this relationship with Roebourne Regional Prison in 2020 and look forward to developing this program further.
